Tom is the same way. The cats occasionally bring in one of these harmless little garter snakes, and my former Green Beret husband has to leave the house until I dispose of it.
I associate snakes with wisdom and healing, not evil.
I associate dragons with wisdom and not evil. This is the symbolism in Asia, where dragons look a lot like snakes.
