One important thing to note: This is one reason my mind plays tricks on me. It makes sense of things but not necessarily the right sense. It picks up on a few clues and fills in the missing or jumbled information. It makes for an interesting parlor trick, but in real life, it can lead to problems.Voters elect someone they think is good for the country because they see a flag in the ads. Hunters see a large brown shape that looks like a deer and shoot a cow -- or worse, another hunter.

Some years ago someone spotted a small black bear up a tree in a suburban neighborhood. Soon a crowd had gathered, watching the bear and waiting for police, fire and DNR authorities to arrive and take care of it. People kept a close eye on it, in case it tried to descend and get away. When the DNR got to the scene and climbed up a fire truck ladder to get a better look, it turned out to be a black garbage back that had blown into the tree and was flapping in the wind. But by then, dozens of people had seen a bear.
