Moist Monday

Although the forecast called for lots of thunderstorms today, we only had a few spells of rain and scattered sprinkles at other times throughout the day. They had predicted one to two inches, but there was nothing like that.

It has been a sad day in some ways. The second friend within just a couple of weeks had to have a pet put to sleep. In both instances, it was the right decision and the right time, but that did not make it less painful to say goodbye. And it makes me think about that future day when Sundance and Cassidy go to the vet for the last time.  I ran across this quote from Anatole France: "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. "

This afternoon Tom and I took a carload -- really, a carload -- of clothes to St. Vincent de Paul. Every year we go through our stuff and sort things out to donate to St. Vinnie's or Goodwill. While he has been stuck in the house for a couple of weeks -- unable to go out in the sun because of the antibiotics he took for the anaplasmosis -- Tom has been cleaning up even more and thinning his wardrobe. He still has plenty for his current needs, but lots of very good shirts from his lawyer days, slacks, jackets and even a pair of barely used shoes are going to make some lucky browser at St. Vinnie's very happy. He gave away a wonderful fringed leather coat, too. That surprised me -- although he had bought it at a thrift store to begin with -- but he said he wears it maybe once a year and there was no point keeping it around.

The bright spot of his day was the replay of last night's NASCAR that he had missed because it began so late.

We had 6/10ths of an inch of rain in Monona, today.
It really came down hard for awhile.

Glen,
We had some more rain after I posted, but I don't think we got more than a quarter inch max here at the house. We seemed to be on the edge of things on the radar maps, and others nearby may have received more.
