Party wisely

I know that drinking is not an issue for most of you, but since it is holiday time, I just wanted to take a moment to remind you to be wise.

A recent report shows that 26% (yes, slightly more than 1 in 4) Wisconsin drivers admits to having driven drunk within the past year.

We have the worst statistics in the nation for alcohol abuse in various forms. It is not something to be proud of, that's for sure.

So wherever you are, whatever you are celebrating, have a good time. But if you drink, don't drive. If you drive, don't drink.

And keep an eye out for those people on cows. That is a danger you seldom anticipate.

There a trainwreck of an alcoholic in our little townhome community. He lives 2 doors over...and its so, so sad. He's this 60+ year old morbidly obese man with no friends or family. His car is always parked crooked, he always reeks, and he's always in a bad mood. I mean, he hates COOPER for Christ's sake!

Well the other day, I was on the phone with Tara outside when suddenly I heard this loud thud and keys jingle.

I looked around to identify what the noise was because it was so odd sounding. I see his SUV drivers side door wide open and like the the drunk who drives the thing on the ground like not moving. I wasn't positive though because it was so dark. I went inside to tell Vince the old man was dead on the pavement outside...Vince could have given 2 craps on a stick. This is the old man who lives with the young girl who died in her car for a while and we ended up having to call 911 because she was so drunk. Not sure if you know that story.

We knew the man was just drunk off his rocker so Vince said to leave him there to drown in his own puke.

We watched as he struggled to get up like 5 times...finally he stood up. He had mud all over him and had obviously urinated himself. I watched him as he stumbled to his front door.

So, so sad.

I'm against drunk driving like I'm against animal cruelty. We've callrf him into the authorities. If you want to kill yourself? Go right on. But don't kill the rest of us in the process.

I thought I'd post you the other drunk story from the person who lives in the same apt as that old man.

Again, I was on the phone with Tara gabbing away outside. I noticed a body in the drivers seat of a Honda and it wasn't moving at all. At first, I wasn't even sure it was a body. I started getting creeped out so I ran in to wake up Vince and ask him to go be a man and check it out. He went downstairs and tapped on the car but the girl inside didn't move at all. She was slumped over with her chin touching her chest...just totally out of it.

He looked up at me and told me to call 911. We tell the police there's an unconscious person outside in a car. A few minutes later, we notice the body kind of stir. So Vince runs back down there and keeps tapping on the car until the lady acknowledged him. He told her he was worried so he had called 911 and they would be here any minute. She was flustered and incoherent...but did manage a "Please call 911 back and tell them not to come."

So I call them back but its too late. The dispatcher says they have already sent a patrol car over. Vince comes inside and the girl stumbles into her house stat.

Next thing you know, a massive fire engine rolls up with a million lights blazing. All these paramedics pile out of the fire engine with like bags of medical stuff. Vince runs back down there to tell them that the girl finally woke up and went into her house. They tell him they will take it from there and let him go back inside.

Shortly after, they all pile back into the fire engine and drive away.

We live in Melrose Place.
