Not that we have any royalist leanings, so close to July 4 and all

For no particular reason I was looking through the genealogical research done by my niece Kristin, who recently became the mother of her second child, Patton James Byron Griswold. She began looking into our family background around the time my father (James Byron Dodd) died in 2011.

I had forgotten that we are related to the Capetian dynasty, also known as the House of France. It is among the largest and oldest European royal houses, consisting of the descendants of King Hugh Capet of France in the male line. In modern times, both King Philip [Felipe] VI of Spain and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg are members of this family, both through the Bourbon branch of the dynasty. Along with the House of Habsburg, it is one of the two most powerful continental European royal families, dominating European politics for nearly five centuries.

We are not, however, descended from Hugh Capet in the male line, though our line is traced back to his grandfather, Robert I of France. The royal blood is quite diluted in our case, and I suppose we have no claim to any thrones. That falls to my many-times-distant cousin Mr. Alfonso de Borbón y Martínez-Bordi, otherwise known as ...

Louis Alphonse of Bourbon, Duke of Anjou, (French: Louis Alphonse Gonzalve Victor Emmanuel Marc de Bourbon; born 25 April 1974, in Madrid) born Alfonso Jaime Marcelino Manuel Víctor María de Borbón y Martínez-Bordiú, is a member of the Royal House of Bourbon, and one of the current pretenders to the defunct French throne as Louis XX. He is recognized as the "Head of the House of Bourbon" and rightful claimant to the French crown by the Legitimist faction of French royalists, who also considered him as the senior male heir of Hugh Capet, being the senior descendant of King Louis XIV of France (ruled 1643–1715) through his grandson King Philip V of Spain. Louis Alphonse is a great-grandson of King Alfonso XIII of Spain and second cousin of King Philip VI of Spain. Through his mother, he is also a great-grandson of Spain's former dictator Francisco Franco and is expected to succeed to the Dukedom of Franco held by his grandmother, Carmen Franco.

The title "Duke of Anjou" was the last French title held by Philip V of Spain prior to his accession. It had long merged with the French crown, last granted by Louis XV to his grandson Louis Stanislas. Legitimist pretenders use this style as a courtesy title. According to Legitimist usage, dynasts who are French nationals are accorded the style Prince of the Blood (prince du sang).

I do have documentation proving  that I am styled (as they say) Lord Michael Dodd of Ladonia, for what that's worth.

Ladonia (Swedish: Ladonien) is a micronation, proclaimed in 1996 as the result of a years-long court battle between artist Lars Vilks and local authorities over two sculptures. The claimed territory is part of the natural reserve Kullaberg in an enclave of southern Sweden. It has achieved recognition from a number of other micronations and Denmark.

I suppose that means I would be Lord Michael if I ever visit Denmark using my Ladonian passport.
