Cruises, turtles and shoes

The owners of the Soma's Cruises are involved with the Stewards group that Tom belongs to, and this evening they treated the Stewards and guests to a sunset cruise on the river. It was two hours, starting at seven, and a lovely evening for it. Their launch site is just a bit down the road from the railway. The weather was warm this afternoon, turning cool but pleasant once we were on the river. It was downright chilly by the time we got back, close to 9:30. Normally their sunset cruise is a dinner cruise, but for this occasion people brought along snacks to share. I made guacamole and bacon wraps, and we stuck them with the flamingo skewers Chris and Linda gave us. I met some new people and had an enjoyable visit with Pat Anderson. I have met her a number of times, and she was one of the people with whom we attended Footloose recently.

Earlier in the afternoon on the way to Kohl's to pay my bill, we saw a snapping turtle crossing Berry Road. He was quite a way down from the pond, but there has been so much rain lately, he could have been paddling around in the ditches for the last two weeks.

On the way back from the library and downtown Dells, we came by way of Trout and Clara Roads, closed until recently by a washout. This is where the big red shoe sits out in the field, or rather sat out in the field. I noticed that it is now on its side. Tom said maybe the water had come up high enough to float it and it just flopped over. Another Lake Delton landmark threatened!

[I posted about the shoe before. Click here to revisit that classic.]
