Interesting article. But it doesn't explain why working around hard-working people in a coffee shop works better than working around hard-working people in a library. At our library, for example, you can even buy coffee and bring it to your workstation. I still find I do better at Starbucks, so perhaps there is something to that ambient noise that is also a factor.
The library in Reedsburg neat where we lived before had free coffee! When I suggested it for our library in the Dells, all I got was shocked expressions. We didn't even have a coffee pot for the library staff, although we were free to bring our own coffee from outside.

PS -- Or maybe the coffee at Starbucks is actually better!
I would have loved a library that permitted coffee at workstations when I was a student. Progressive.
