Critter du jour

Rusty, who just won some awards from the Texas Press Association for a couple of his articles for the Lindale News and Times [Way to go, Rusty!], said he thinks I don't have a creature problem so much as a cat problem. He's probably right.

Remember Larry, his brother Darryl and his other brother Darryl from Newhart? They ran the Minuteman Café and were always going out to the highway to look for roadkill to use for the "Critter du jour" on their menu. Some days this blog must seem like critter du jour.

Speaking of which, today's critter -- totally unconnected to the cats or the house -- was the groundhog I saw by the side of the road on the way home. Okay, not too exotic, but it's all I got. They can't all be gems.

Meanwhile, Tom says the female turkey that has been hanging around a lot was investigating the flamingos at close range earlier today. She had been clucking last week, a sound that is supposed to be turkey-talk for "assemble" according to one of Tom's sources. Maybe she thought the flamingos were responding to her summons. The barber thought maybe she had lost her brood and was trying to find them. Peggy and Rich think she's just a couple of light bulbs short of a chandelier.
