Tammy Faye died of cancer Friday. A year or so back, Tom and I watched a documentary from Netflix about her, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, made in 2000, tracing her rise and fall and the aftermath of the collapse of the PTL ministry she and her then-husband ran. I admit we got it expecting to laugh at her, but we wound up being moved by her story and came away with respect for her, if not for everything and everyone with whom she had been involved. She came across as a much more nuanced person and a deeply compassionate woman.She was on Larry King's show Thursday night and died Friday morning. She looked terrible on the show, but one hopes that now -- without those trademark mascaraed eyes -- her beauty as a child of God shines in her Father's house.
