A (tiny) bit of reflected glory

A year ago today, I posted this on the blog:

The Divine Adventure

This book about the life and especially the travels of St. Teresa around Spain while founding monasteries of Discalced Carmelite nuns and friars was the last major project that I worked on for ICS Publications. My contribution was small, mostly checking translations of captions for the many photographs, converting metric to imperial measurements and so on. It is a revision of an earlier book, updated and with many beautiful photographs. I am happy to see that it is available to help celebrate the 500th anniversary of La Santa's birth.
Today I got an email with the news that last night this volume received three awards at the Catholic Press Association convention in St. Louis, including first place in the category of Coffee Table Book/Religious Art and third place for a book by a small publisher.

I appreciated the publication director mentioning me in her email to the members of the province for my "detailed and painstaking comparison of the original text with the O'Mahony translation from the earlier translation."

In a later personal message, she added, "Thank you again for your work with the book. I still remember my horror when I discovered how bad (and incomplete, and inaccurate) the previous translation was and how much was untranslated from the new Spanish! Thank heaven you were able to compare the two to help me with that."

I will try not to break my arm patting myself on the back, especially since my contribution was indeed small. But since it was my last project for my old community, it is nice to go out with a bright spot and particularly nice to be publicly remembered.

good for you!
I especially like St. T; I have a postcard of her on my office shelf.

It is nice to be publicly remembered for doing something well. Looks like a lovely book.
When I was reading the blurb on Amazon I noticed another book I like the sound of... "God Alone and I: Carmelite Meditations".

You well deserve a pat on the back. That would make me very proud!
