The 59th Street Bridge Song

Slow down, you move too fast.
You've got to make the morning last.
Just kickin' down the cobble stones
Looking for fun and feeling groovy
Ba da-da-da da da, feelin' groovy

Hello lamppost, what'cha knowin'?
I've come to watch your flowers growin'.
Ain'tcha got no rhymes for me?
Do-in do do, feelin' groovy
Ba da-da-da da da, feelin' groovy

I got no deeds to do, no promises to keep,
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning-time drop all its petals on me
Life I love you, all is groovy
Ba da da da da da da da
Ba da da da da da da da
Ba da da da da da da da
This "mostly harmless" ditty was never one of my favorite Simon and Garfunkel songs, but it came to mind this morning. The last verse especially appeals: no deeds to do, no promises to keep, dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep. It is funny that the flip side of the single was I Am a Rock, perhaps the emotional polar opposite of feelin' groovy.

The use of groovy dates the song in an amusing way that fits in with my laid-back feeling on this August Sunday.

I still use 'groovy', rather liberally in my daily lexicon.

Michael,
How quaint and curious!
