Acceptance

A number of our friends are in the habit of saying that they accept that everything is exactly the way it is supposed to be in God's world. I think I know what they are getting at, but that way of putting it does not appeal to me very much. It seems to posit a divine power that is either incompetent (as Woody Allen once said of God), uninterested or cruel.

Sometimes I think accepting things as they are means accepting that I should do something about them to make them different.

Especially if the thing that needs to be different is my way of thinking, my perspective, my attitude.

We live in a broken world where it is our choice to aspire to be more like Jesus.
