Apartment

We signed a lease, somewhat to our surprise. This happened much faster than we expected. We are pleased, but we know there will be things we don't love.

The place is on the northeast side of Madison, on the edge of Sun Prairie in an area with modern office buildings, not jammed together, and other apartment complexes. It is only a few minutes from a large mall and shopping area. (In answer to Glen's question, it is not far from Maharana Restaurant.)

They are very accommodating about lots of things. For example, we can hang all the art we want and we can put up something Plexiglas around the bottom edge of the balcony to discourage the cats from rolling off. (Cassidy, I'm looking at you.)

The current renter is buying a house, and the apartment will actually be available to us mid-December. The plan is to move-move in January, I guess, but we will start taking things down there and getting organized as soon as the place is free.

Tom asked to be shown a duplicate apartment in a building that is just being finished so that he could take photos of walls for plug, door and window placement. This is to get an idea of how we want to arrange things. Most of the photos show just walls and corners and floors, of course. But these two pictures of the kitchen with a peek into the living area and a hint of the view through the doors onto the balcony give you an idea of how light and airy it is. Our view, by the way, is much nicer, looking out on on rolling hills with lots of space between the buildings in the area. It faces away from the parking area and the other buildings in our own complex, so nothing is visually nearby. We will have great sunset views on the distant horizon. I am a little disappointed that we do not have a view of the Capitol, but Tom says that way we don't have to be reminded of Scott Walker.

It is three bedrooms (the smallest will be my/our office), two large bathrooms, full-size washer and dryer, just under 1400 square feet. We get two parking spaces, one in underground parking near an additional assigned storage room for the apartment. Okay, full disclosure: storage closet

That's the report on that. Someday when we get moved, I will post some pictures. I wish I had taken a photo of our view the other day. The fall look right now is more colorful than a midwinter shot will be.

Now we have to work hard getting this house cleaned up and ready for Michelangelo and friends who will arrive for the weekend!

Later, 'gators!

Looks nice.
I'm loving all the windows and the high ceilings.

Bob,
Those are thirteen-foot ceilings. There are seven buildings in this complex and only one apartment like this in each one. The other three bedrooms on lower floors have normal ceilings, and the feel is quite different. Although we live in the woods, so to speak, now, Tom designed our house to have all over-sized windows. As a result, we are used to a lot of light. So this was a big selling point.

Indeed our house is a dump compared to your apartment.
